of his presence in those scriptures and to establish the proof through his mention therein. Hence, when his mention in writings other than the Book of Moses is, in their view, more abundant and more explicit, adducing those writings is even more fitting than restricting the evidence to the Book of Moses alone. If, therefore, the word “Torah” in this context is taken to mean the entire corpus of scriptures—as is attested in the language of the Companions and the Followers who spoke in that manner—this provides the clearest possible clarification and praise for both the Quran and the earlier books, each confirming the other.

We have also been commanded to believe, without qualification, in all that the prophets were given, as He, exalted is He, says:

“Say, ‘We believe in Allah and in what has been revealed to us, and in what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and in what Moses and Jesus were given, and in what the prophets were given from their Lord; we make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we submit.’” ⦗Al-Baqarah: 136⦘

And He says:

“But true righteousness is for those who believe in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets.” ⦗Al-Baqarah: 177⦘

The Zabur (Psalms) is mentioned separately in two places in the Quran, one of them being His words:

“Indeed We have revealed to you, as We revealed to Noah and the prophets after him; and We revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, the Tribes, Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron, and Solomon, and We gave David the Psalms; and of messengers We have already related to you, and of messengers We have not related to you; and Allah spoke to Moses directly—messengers bearing glad tidings and warnings so that mankind would have no argument against Allah after the messengers. And Allah is ever Mighty, Wise.” ⦗Al-Nisaʾ: 163⦘
