whereupon Allah the Exalted said, “Have I wronged you in any part of what was due to you?”
They replied, “No.”
Allah said, “That is My favor; I grant it to whomsoever I will.”
To proceed: Allah, blessed and exalted, made Muḥammad (peace and blessings be upon him) the Seal of the Prophets, perfected the religion for him and for his community, and sent him after a long interruption of messengers, at a time when disbelief was widespread and the paths of guidance were obscured. Through him He revived the obliterated landmarks of faith; with him He suppressed the polytheists—worshipers of idols, fire, and crosses—and humbled the disbelieving People of the Book, those given to doubt and hesitation. By means of him He raised aloft the beacon of the religion He had approved, exalted the mention of the servants He elected and chose, brought to light what had been concealed among the People of the Scripture, and clarified the matters in which they had strayed from the path of truth. Through him He affirmed the authenticity of the Torah, the Psalms, and the Gospel, and removed from them the falsehood of distortion and alteration that did not rightfully belong to them.
