Likewise, the Torah contains the words:
“I shall raise up for the Children of Israel a prophet from among their brothers; I will send down to him a Torah like the Torah of Moses.”
Thus the second scripture is also called “Torah.”
Hence the request,
“Tell me about the description of the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—in the Torah,”
may be meant as a reference to all the earlier revealed books, for they may collectively be called “Torah,” and this passage occurs in some of them. It could also be intended specifically for the actual Torah; in that case the passage would belong to a copy from which these extant versions were not transcribed, for none of the Torah manuscripts available to us contain it.
However, the same wording is found in their Book of Isaiah, where it says:
“My servant in whom My soul delights: I shall send down My revelation upon him. He will make My justice manifest among the nations and will charge them with the commandments. He does not laugh, nor is his voice heard in the marketplaces. He opens blind eyes and deaf ears and revives sealed hearts. What I grant him I grant no one else. He will praise Allah with a new praise that comes from the farthest reaches of the earth. The wilderness and its inhabitants will rejoice; they will proclaim the tahlil (There is no god but Allah) on every elevation and exalt Him with the takbir (Allah is greatest) on every hillside. He will neither weaken nor be overcome, nor will he yield to passion; he is steadfast and will not abase the righteous, who are as delicate as a reed.”
