Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

—the crooked religion—and through him I shall open blind eyes, deaf ears, and sealed hearts, so that they will proclaim, “There is no god but Allah.”

The terms Torah, Gospel, Quran, and Psalms may refer either to the specific scriptures that bear those names or, more generally, to the entire class of revealed books. For that reason the word “Quran” can be used for the Psalms and other scriptures, as in the sound hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):

“Recitation was made easy for David, so that between the time his mount was saddled and the moment he mounted it, he would have recited his Quran.”

Here “his Quran” means his own scripture—the Psalms—not the Quran that was revealed exclusively to Muhammad.

In the same vein, a description of Muhammad’s community says, “Their Gospels are in their breasts,” calling the book they recite—the Quran—“Gospels.”
