Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

One of the two positions holds that if the Lawgiver introduces a ruling that He intends to abrogate later, He must alert those addressed to the fact that it will eventually be revoked, lest they assume it permanent and thereby be left in error.

The other position maintains that no such forewarning is required.

Likewise, regarding anyone sent after Moses—must he necessarily have been foretold beforehand? Here again there are two opinions.

In all events, the Muslim scholars are unanimous that the Messiah—peace be upon him—did give glad tidings of Muhammad (Allah bless him and grant him peace), exactly as the Exalted says:

“And when Jesus son of Mary said, ‘O Children of Israel, I am indeed the messenger of Allah to you, confirming what is before me of the Torah and bringing good news of a messenger who will come after me whose name is Ahmad.’” (Q 61:6)

He, the Exalted, has also said:

“Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered Prophet, whom they find written about with them in the Torah and the Gospel—he enjoins upon them what is right and forbids them what is wrong, makes lawful for them the good things, forbids them the impure, and lifts from them their burden and the shackles that were upon them.” (Q 7:157)
