Now, if he were lying, a man who fabricates lies about Allah would be among the worst of the unbelievers, and no such immense good could possibly flow from such a person—good the like of which no other prophet ever achieved. He erased the religion of the idolaters, abolished the creed of the Magians, and subdued the Jews; none of those three feats had been accomplished by any prophet or messenger before him.
But if he is truthful, he has declared that he is Allah’s messenger to the Christians and other nations, and has reported from Allah that everyone who does not believe in him is an unbeliever. This argument can be addressed to every group.
Accordingly, each community is told: You yourselves admit that anyone outside your ranks who embraces the religion of Muhammad—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—will be better off than he is now. The Jews acknowledge that the Christians would be better off following him than remaining in Christianity; the Christians acknowledge that the Jews would be better off following him than remaining in Judaism; and both People of the Scripture, Jews and Christians alike, concede that anyone else who follows Muhammad fares better than he did before.
