Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

—and grant him peace—He caused the oneness of Allah and the worship of Him alone, without partner, to break forth with a clarity no nation had ever known, something no previous prophet had attained. Through him, too, He made manifest an affirmation of the scriptures and the messengers—the Torah, the Gospel, the Psalms; Moses, Jesus, David, Solomon, and the rest of the prophets—in a way that had not been apparent either to the People of the Book or to anyone else.

Although the People of the Book were better than others, they were still not upholding the duties of faith in Allah and His messengers, in the Last Day, and in the laws of His religion. They were neither subduing the majority of the unbelievers nor gaining victory over them. Hence the Exalted said:

“Fight those who do not believe in Allah and the Last Day, who do not forbid what Allah and His Messenger have forbidden, and who do not embrace the religion of truth—from among those who were given the Book.” ⦗9:29⦘

As for the Jews, their belittlement of the prophets—reviling them and attributing to them defects from which Allah has declared them pure—is well known. Some even claim that Solomon was a sorcerer, or that David was an astrologer and not a prophet, and the like of such assertions.
