—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—together with Jaʿfar ibn Abī Ṭālib. Jaʿfar subsequently reached the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—during the year of Khaybar. A number of leading scholars and ḥadīth masters have related their story, among them Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal in the Musnad, Ibn Saʿd in the Ṭabaqāt, Abū Nuʿaym in the Ḥilyah, and many others. It is also cited by specialists in exegesis, ḥadīth, and jurisprudence, and is regarded by the scholars as mutawātir (mass-transmitted).

Aḥmad said:
“Yaʿqūb ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿīd narrated to me, from his father, who said:
Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq narrated to us; he said: I was told by Muḥammad ibn Muslim ibn ʿAbd…"
