Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

And had they themselves innovated those expressions and depicted the Creator with the impossibility of tajsīm (corporeal embodiment), the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—would surely have condemned them for it, just as he rebuked them for ascribing defects to Him in passages such as:

“Allah has indeed heard the statement of those who said, ‘Allah is poor while we are rich.’” ⦗Āl ʿImrān 181⦘

and His saying:

“The Jews said, ‘Allah’s hand is shackled.’ Shackled be their hands, and cursed are they for what they said. Rather, both His hands are outstretched; He spends as He wills.” ⦗al-Māʾida 64⦘

and His saying, Exalted is He:

“We created the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them in six days, and no weariness touched Us.” ⦗Qāf 38⦘

Here Allah negates from Himself the weariness that some imagine to be implied by the word istirāḥa (rest) found in the Torah, for that scripture states that Allah created the world in six days and then “rested” on the Sabbath—so certain people assumed He had grown tired and therefore rested.

Some Muslim scholars, however, held that they had only altered the meaning, not the actual wording, and that this is indeed the wording of the revealed Torah; this view was voiced by Ibn Qutayba.
