Given all of that, in their creed, they did not say what the Messiah and the prophets had said. Instead, they invented a creed that is nowhere to be found in prophetic discourse. Nowhere in the words of the prophets—neither those of Christ nor of anyone else—do we read of aqānīm (divine persons) for God, whether three or any other number; nor of affirming three attributes in that fashion; nor of calling any of God’s attributes “the Son of God” or “lord”; nor of calling His life “spirit”; nor of saying that God has a son who is a true god from the True God, of the very essence of His Father, and who creates just as God creates. Such statements, laden with various forms of unbelief, have never been transmitted from any prophet whatsoever.
Accordingly, they formulated in their creed of faith:
“We believe in God the Father, the Possessor of all things, the Maker of what is seen and what is unseen, ” This is true.
Then they said:
“And in the one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, the first-born of all creation, begotten not made, true God from true God, of the essence of His Father, Light from Light, equal to the Father in essence, by whose hand the worlds were perfected and all things were created; who for us human beings and for our salvation descended from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and of Mary the Virgin, became man, was conceived and born of Mary the Virgin, suffered, was crucified, was buried, rose on the third day as it is written, and ascended to…"
