Section: A clarification that everything the author has cited from al-Hasan ibn Ayyub and Ibn al-Batriq is nothing more than a refutation of the claim that the Messiah contains two natures.

By what we have already explained, the reply to their statement is complete, namely:

“Accordingly, we say: in the Lord Messiah there are two natures—one divine, which is the nature of the Word of God and His Spirit, and one human, taken from Mary the Virgin and united with him.”

It has become clear that this is merely one of the Christians’ doctrines, while they also hold other doctrines that contradict it. Each faction anathematizes the other, for they are not following a single teaching inherited from the Messiah and the apostles; rather, these are doctrines innovated by certain individuals among them, by which they themselves strayed and led others astray, just as the Exalted said:

“People of the Book, do not go to excess in your religion, departing from the truth, and do not follow the desires of a people who went astray before, led many others astray, and strayed far from the straight path.” ⦗5:77⦘

Thus He, glorified be He, stated that they had already led others astray before the mission of Muhammad—may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
