Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

And the Exalted said, describing Satan:

“He only commands you to evil, to indecency, and to say about Allah what you do not know.” (Q 2:169)

He, Most High, also said:

“O People of the Scripture, do not go to extremes in your religion, and do not say about Allah anything but the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, His word that He cast to Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers, and do not say, ‘Three.’ Desist— that is better for you. Allah is but one God; far exalted is He above having a child. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth, and Allah is sufficient as a trustee. The Messiah will never disdain to be a servant of Allah, nor will the angels who are near. Whoever disdains His worship and waxes proud, He will gather them all to Himself. As for those who believed and did righteous deeds, He will give them their full rewards and add to them out of His bounty; but those who were disdainful and arrogant, He will punish with a painful punishment, and they shall find for themselves no protector and no helper apart from Allah.” (Q 4:171–173)

All religious communities concur that speaking about Allah without knowledge is forbidden. Allah—glorified be He—has barred them from saying anything about Him except what is true; this amounts to a prohibition against uttering falsehood, whether they know it to be false or not. For if they do not know that it is false, they certainly do not know that it is true, since falsehood can never be known to be truth. And if someone, on the basis of a corrupt belief, imagines it to be true, that
