Therefore, if we say, “The Holy Spirit is created,” we are in fact saying that His life is created; and if we say that His life is created, we have alleged that He is not living; and if we allege that He is not living, we have lapsed into unbelief, and whoever falls into unbelief is subject to the curse.

Consequently they all agreed to anathematize Macedonius: they anathematized him and his partisans, they anathematized the patriarchs who came after him and held his view, they anathematized the bishop of Laodicea and his followers, and they anathematized Apollinaris and those who sided with him, because he asserted that the Father and the Son are one person. They also anathematized Apollinaris and his adherents for claiming that the body of our Lord Christ was without a principle of action.

They affirmed that the Holy Spirit is Creator, uncreated, true God, and that the Father and the Son share one essence and one nature.

Finally, they added to the creed drawn up by the three hundred and eighteen bishops who had met in the city of Nicaea the phrase: “and in the Holy Spirit, the Life-Giver, the Death-Bringer, who proceeds from the Father.”

حَيَاتِهِ، فَإِذَا قُلْنَا: إِنَّ رُوحَ الْقُدُسِ مَخْلُوقٌ، فَقَدْ قُلْنَا: إِنَّ حَيَاتَهُ مَخْلُوقَةٌ، وَإِذَا قُلْنَا: إِنَّ حَيَاتَهُ مَخْلُوقَةٌ، فَقَدْ زَعَمْنَا أَنَّهُ غَيْرُ حَيٍّ، وَإِذَا زَعَمْنَا أَنَّهُ غَيْرُ حَيٍّ، فَقَدْ كَفَرْنَا، وَمَنْ كَفَرَ وَجَبَ عَلَيْهِ اللَّعْنُ. فَاتَّفَقُوا عَلَى لَعْنِ " مَقْدُونْيُوسَ " فَلَعَنُوهُ وَأَشْيَاعَهُ، وَلَعَنُوا الْبَطَارِكَةَ الَّذِينَ كَانُوا بَعْدَهُ يَقُولُونَ بِقَوْلِهِ، وَلَعَنُوا أُسْقُفَّ لُونِيَّةَ وَأَشْيَاعَهُ، وَلَعَنُوا " بُولِينَارْيُوسَ " وَأَشْيَاعَهُ، لِأَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ: إِنَّ الْأَبَ وَالِابْنَ وَجْهٌ وَاحِدٌ. وَلَعَنُوا " بُولِينَارْيُوسَ " وَأَشْيَاعَهُ، لِأَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ: إِنَّ جَسَدَ سَيِّدِنَا الْمَسِيحِ بِغَيْرِ فِعْلٍ. وَثَبَّتُوا أَنَّ رُوحَ الْقُدُسِ خَالِقَةٌ غَيْرُ مَخْلُوقَةٍ إِلَهٌ حَقٌّ، وَأَنَّ طَبِيعَةَ الْأَبِ وَالِابْنِ جَوْهَرٌ وَاحِدٌ وَطَبِيعَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ. وَزَادَ فِي الْأَمَانَةِ الَّتِي وَضَعَهَا الثَّلَاثُمِائَةِ وَالثَمَانِيَةَ عَشَرَ أُسْقُفًّا الَّذِينَ اجْتَمَعُوا فِي مَدِينَةِ " نِيقِيَّةَ " : (وَبِرُوحِ الْقُدُسِ الْمُحْيِي الْمُمِيتِ الْمُنْبَثِقِ مِنَ الْأَبِ) .
