Muḥammad ibn Saʿd, however, records no delegation after that of Najrān save the delegation of Jayshān, which points to their arrival having been relatively late. By contrast, Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq places their coming at the very beginning of the prophetic biography, alongside the narrative concerning the Jews, so as to combine the accounts of both Jews and Christians. He then lists, under the events of the tenth year, the opening of Najrān and the Prophet’s—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—commissioning of Khālid ibn al-Walīd. Those who reported the matter add that Khālid’s mission occurred only shortly before the Prophet’s—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—death.
