Saʿīd said: Constantine had three sons, the eldest of whom was Constantine, son of Constantine. This was when Ardashir son of Sābur son of Hormuz ruled over the Persians, and after him Sābur son of Sābur reigned, five years into Constantine’s kingship.
He went on: In that same period the followers of Arius—and all who espoused his doctrine—came to King Constantine. They presented their creed and their teaching to him, saying, “The 318 bishops who assembled at Nicaea were in error and swerved from the truth when they declared that the Son shares the same essence as the Father. Therefore, order that this statement no longer be uttered, for it is a mistake.” The king was inclined to grant their request.
He continued: In that very age, at al-Aqranīyūn—namely, Golgotha—there appeared at midday a cross of light that stretched from earth to heaven, its brilliance surpassing that of the sun. It reached the Mount of Olives, and everyone in Jerusalem, young and old alike, witnessed it.
