The presiding and leading figure at the council was Alexandros, Patriarch of Alexandria, together with the Patriarch of Antioch and the Bishop of Jerusalem.
The Patriarch of Rome sent two deputies on his behalf. The assembly unanimously resolved to banish Arius and his supporters, anathematized them and anyone who voiced their doctrine, framed the Creed, and affirmed that the Son is begotten of the Father before all creation and that, sharing the Father’s very essence, the Son is uncreated.
They further agreed that the Christians’ Pascha (Easter) should fall on the Sunday that comes after the Jews’ Passover, and that the two feasts must never coincide on the same day. They also ratified the previously established calculations for the fast and for Pascha.
