Emperor Constantine then ordered Patriarch Alexander to pronounce a curse upon Arius and upon everyone who upheld his doctrine. The patriarch replied, “Instead, let the emperor send word so that the patriarchs and bishops may come in person; then we can hold a council, issue a definitive ruling, anathematize Arius, and explain the faith clearly to the people.”

Constantine therefore dispatched envoys to every land and gathered the patriarchs and bishops. After a year and two months, two thousand and forty-eight bishops assembled in the city of Nicaea, holding diverse opinions and adhering to different creeds. Among them were those who said, “Christ and Mary are two gods beside Allah.” These were the Maryamāniyya, also known as the Maryamites.

مَقَالَةَ " أَرِيوسَ " ، وَدَارَ بَيْنَهُمَا أَيْضًا مَسَائِلُ كَثِيرَةٌ. فَأَمَرَ " " قُسْطَنْطِينُ " " الْبَطْرَكَ " الْأَكْصَنْدَرُوسَ " أَنْ يَلْعَنَ " أَرِيُوسَ " وَكُلَّ مَنْ قَالَ بِمَقَالَتِهِ. فَقَالَ لَهُ: بَلْ يُوَجِّهُ الْمَلِكُ فَيَشْخَصُ الْبَطَارِكَةُ وَالْأَسَاقِفَةُ حَتَّى يَكُونَ لَنَا مَجْمَعٌ، وَنَضَعَ فِيهِ قَضِيَّةً وَنَلْعَنَ " أَرِيُوسَ " وَنَشْرَحَ الدِّينَ وَنُوَضِّحَهُ لِلنَّاسِ. فَبَعَثَ " " قُسْطَنْطِينُ " " الْمَلِكُ إِلَى جَمِيعِ الْبُلْدَانِ فَجَمَعَ الْبَطَارِكَةَ وَالْأَسَاقِفَةَ فَاجْتَمَعَ فِي مَدِينَةِ " نِيقِيَّةَ " بَعْدَ سَنَةٍ وَشَهْرَيْنِ، أَلْفَانِ وَثَمَانِيَةٌ وَأَرْبَعُونَ أُسْقُفًّا، وَكَانُوا مُخْتَلِفِي الْآرَاءِ مُخْتَلِفِي الْأَدْيَانِ. فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَقُولُ: الْمَسِيحُ وَمَرْيَمُ إِلَهَانِ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ، وَهُمُ " الْمَرْيَمَانِيَّةُ " ، وَيُسَمَّوْنَ " الْمَرْيَمِيِّينَ " .
