on the Day of Resurrection, recompense them for their deeds, and preside over judgment among them. You further maintain that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, granted him that office because none of His creation can behold Him, either in this world or in the Hereafter. Yet if the one who will sit in judgment over all people on the Day of Reckoning, seated at the right hand of his Father, is—beyond any doubt—a distinct, self-subsisting person, namely the very body that once walked the earth and to which you claim lordship was united, then you have severed him from Allah, Blessed and Exalted, and have divided the Godhead by positing two separate persons in heaven, one at the right side of the other. That is outright unbelief and polytheism with Allah, Mighty and Majestic.

But if that body is devoid of divinity—because the Word has returned to Allah just as it first issued from Him—then the lordship you ascribe to it has been nullified.

He continued:

We would like to ask you one question, and we hope you will answer it. It concerns the very foundation of your worship of the three hypostases which, according to your claim, resolve into a single essence—the godhead. What exactly is that foundation? From where did you derive it? Who commanded you to adopt it? In which revealed book did it appear? Which prophet foretold it? Or what statement of the Messiah do you cite in its support? Have you based your entire doctrine on anything other than the words of the disciple “Matthew” concerning the Messiah?
