Section: A further rebuttal of the Christians, first with the remarks of Ḥasan ibn Ayyūb and then with the words of Ibn al-Baṭrīq.
Ḥasan ibn Ayyūb said:
“An example of this is what is written in the Gospel: when a man addressed him and said, ‘Good teacher,’ he answered, ‘No one is good except God alone.’ (I add that some render the phrase, ‘O righteous one,’ whereupon he replied, ‘No one is righteous except God alone.’)
Likewise, the Gospel records his saying: ‘I have not come to do my own will but the will of Him who sent me.’
Had he possessed a lāhūtī (divine) will, as you allege, he would never have spoken in that manner; by this very statement he has nullified your claim.
Yet despite all this you still insist that the Messiah is the Word of God and a power from God, neither separated nor detached from Him, while you also testify in the Gospel to his words: ‘He will ascend to heaven, sit at the right hand of his Father, and judge people…’
