that belongs to the Creator—blessed and exalted be He—-not to the created; and that He brings beings into existence, for Eve was fashioned from a male without a female, and the creation of a female from a male without a female is more astonishing than the creation of a male from a female without a father. Still more wondrous is that God created Adam out of dust, and bringing a human forth from dust is far more remarkable and original than producing a male from a female without a sire. He said:
“All the reasons we have just enumerated are the very arguments on which you rely when, in your creed, you ascribe lordship to the Messiah and confer divinity upon him. We have presented them exactly as you hold them and have accepted your own wording, even though we do not doubt that the People of the Book have altered some of their contents, twisting words from their proper places. At length we have shown you what you lay claim to and the unsoundness of the interpretations you draw from the books in your possession—the Torah, the Psalms, the Prophets, and the Gospel. What proof, then, remains for you after all this?”
