He said:
And David declared in his one-hundred-and-tenth Psalm:
“ ‘The Lord said, “Sit at My right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet. The scepter of might will send forth the Lord from Zion; your people, O Messiah, shall prevail over your foes on the day of dread, in the splendor of holiness, from the very day I begot you, O youth. By the covenant of the Lord—and He does not break His word—you are the divinely supported priest, comparable to Melchizedek.” ’
He commented:
This is a form of address that they ascribe to the divine nature, yet David’s own words show that the Lord he mentioned has a Lord greater and higher than he, who granted him what we have recounted, bestowed it upon him, and bore witness to it.
Indeed, the scepter of might sends forth this lord of his from Zion, and David calls him “youth,” thereby confirming his earlier statement—“Today I have begotten you”—in harmony with the opening of his discourse that he is his Lord. He also describes him as the divinely supported priest who resembles Melchizedek.
