Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

As for healing a leper, the Book of Kings relates that one of the Roman nobles contracted leprosy. He left his country and traveled to Elisha, hoping to be cured. The book says that the man stood at Elisha’s door for days without being admitted. People said to Elisha, “At your gate stands a man called Naaman, the most distinguished of the Romans. He is afflicted with leprosy and has come to you for a cure; if you permit him, he will enter.” Elisha did not grant him access. Instead, he said to one of his companions, “Go out to that man and tell him: Let him immerse himself in the Jordan seven times.” The messenger conveyed Elisha’s words to Naaman; he did as instructed, the leprosy left him, and he set off homeward.

Elisha’s servant followed him, pretending that Elisha had sent him to ask for money. Delighted, Naaman gave the servant silver and jewels. The servant returned and hid what he had taken. When he entered before Elisha, the prophet said, “You pursued Naaman, made him think I had requested such and such, took from him such and such, and concealed it in such and such a place. Because you have done this, his leprosy shall cling to you and to your descendants.” The servant was immediately struck with leprosy on the spot.

Thus Elisha cured a leper—and even struck a healthy man with leprosy—and he is greater
