Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

in their synagogues, imitating their practices, never professing a religion other than theirs, and laying claim to neither mission, prophethood, nor divine sonship—until those years had passed. Then he proclaimed his call, producing dazzling signs and famed miracles; but the Jews rejected him, killed him, and crucified him, after which he ascended to heaven.

You first embraced the Law of Faith and anathematized whoever opposed it. Yet before long you cast it off and withdrew from it, saying: “The Messiah consists of two essences and two hypostases—one eternal, one created—each essence possessing its own hypostasis; and God is an eternal essence subsisting in two meanings, so that He is one while standing upon three meanings, and the three share a single meaning, like the sun, which is one entity yet has three aspects: the disk, the heat, and the light. Thus the Messiah is God, and he is commissioned, though he is not to be worshipped.”

The import of these words is that the Messiah is begotten, yet not an object of action; that he is dispatched and sent, yet you shrink from calling him a messenger, since you make no distinction whatsoever between God and him. You then turned upon the Melkites and the Jacobites with charges of unbelief and curses for saying that God and the Messiah are one, only to end up preferring the Messiah above God—Majestic and Exalted—beginning with him in your glorifications and directing toward him your hymns and petitions, especially during the times of the Eucharistic offerings, the loftiest of your prayers and the most honored of your assemblies, when the priest among you stands at one of your altars
