Mary said, “How can this be, when no man has ever touched me?”

The angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come to you— or, he will dwell within you— and the power of the Most High will make you conceive; therefore the child born of you will be holy and will be called the Son of the Most High.”

He said: We do not find that the angel told her, “The one you will bear is your Creator and the Lord, as you name Him.” Rather, he dispelled any doubt by saying, “The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, will choose him and honor him, that the Prophet David is his father, and that he will be called the Son of God.” Nor did he say, “that he will be king over the whole earth”; rather, sovereignty was granted to him only over the Children of Israel. And you know that those who are called “son of God” are countless, among the examples of this is your acknowledgment that you are all sons of God.
