Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

that a god could be attacked by His own creatures in the very way you describe He was attacked?

If you claim that all of this befell only the body, such an explanation cannot stand to reason in view of what we have already set out concerning the union of the divine nature (lāhūt) with that body. For was it not a body with which divinity was united, in which the spirit took up residence—a body that, according to your own assertion, God brought forth for the salvation of His creatures and to which He delegated judgment over humanity on the Day when the first and the last will be gathered for reckoning?

Yet we find you preferring to circulate stories about people who displayed coffins containing your martyrs, alleging that the hands stretched out toward them withered; or has anyone experienced panic, dread, sorrow, anxiety, and pleading with God to remove what had befallen him comparable to what the Gospel recounts befell him? We also find in your books that George—one of those who followed the religion of Christ, peace and blessings be upon him—suffered torture of an intensity never heard of among mankind: he was killed, burned, and sawn apart with saws, and many of his disciples likewise endured terrible torment.

It is further said that when the kings who fought against them subjected them to such ordeals in order to force them to abandon their religion and return to the unbelief on which those kings themselves stood, they bore it patiently, reckoned their souls to God, and did not flee from death, even though escape was well within their reach
