Among them were the Barbaraniyya, who claimed that Jesus and his mother are two gods besides Allah, exalted is He.

He added:

Those sects have now perished. Their following today is reduced to three principal sects, the largest of which is the Melkites. This is the creed of all Christian monarchs wherever they may be—save the Ethiopians and the Nubians—and it is the doctrine embraced by the majority of the populace in every Christian realm, again excepting Nubia and Abyssinia. It is likewise the creed of all the Christians of Africa and Sicily.
