“whom we used to invoke apart from You.” The partners will then hurl back at them the reply, “You are surely liars,” and on that Day they will surrender to Allah. ⦗Al-Naḥl 16:86-87⦘
The Exalted also says: “O you who believe! Do not take My enemies and your enemies as allies, extending affection toward them.” ⦗Al-Mumtaḥanah 1⦘
As for the expressions laqqantuhu al-qawl (“I prompted him with the words”), laqqaytuhu fa-talaqqāhu (“I dictated it to him and he took it in”), these are used when you want him to memorize what is said—unlike alqaytuhu ilayh (“I cast it to him”). In the latter case, this expression is used for speech addressed to someone, even if he does not memorize it, just as when one says, “Indeed, you are liars,” or “they offered them peace.” Here we have nothing but speech that they heard; the attribute of the speaker itself has not lodged in the addressee.
Likewise, when Allah cast His word to Mary—the word “Be”—it in no way required that the very attribute which subsists in Him should settle in Mary, any more than it must settle in everyone to whom He casts His speech, just as the attribute of any speaker does not inhere in the one to whom his words are conveyed.
