for Allah, exalted be He, has said:
“When the angels said, ‘O Mary, Allah gives you good news of a word from Him whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, held in honor in this world and the Hereafter and one of those brought near. He will speak to people in the cradle and in adulthood and will be among the righteous.’ She said, ‘My Lord, how can I have a child when no man has touched me?’ He said, ‘Thus it is—Allah creates whatever He wills; when He decrees a matter, He only says to it, “Be!” and it is.’” (Āl ʿImrān 45–47)
In these words there are several proofs that he is a created being and not what the Christians claim:
-
He said, “a word from Him.” The phrase “a word from Him” appears in the indefinite form within an affirmative statement, which shows that Jesus is merely one of Allah’s words, not the whole of His speech as the Christians maintain.
-
Allah clarifies His intent with the very phrase “a word from Him” and affirms that Jesus is created when He says: “Thus Allah creates whatever He wills; when He decrees a matter, He only says to it, ‘Be!’ and it is.” (Āl ʿImrān 47)
Likewise, He says in another verse: “Indeed, the likeness of Jesus in the sight of Allah is that of Adam: He created him from dust, then said to him, ‘Be!’ and he was.” (Āl ʿImrān 59)
And He, exalted, said in the surah Kāf-Hā-Yā-ʿAyn-Ṣād (Maryam): “That is Jesus son of Mary—the statement of truth about which they dispute. It is not befitting for Allah to take a son. Glory be to Him! When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, ‘Be!’ and it is.” (Maryam 34–35)
