—namely, the nature of the Word of Allah and His Spirit—
and a human nature, taken from the Virgin Mary and united with Him. They also cite what Allah, exalted is He, is reported to have said through Moses the prophet:

“Is this not the Father who created you, fashioned you, and made you His own?”

Likewise, they claim that David the prophet said:

“Do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.”

And again, in David’s words:

“By the Word of Allah the heavens were established, and by the breath of His mouth all their hosts were made.”

From this, they argue, one should not infer three creators, but a single Creator: the Father, together with His Speech—that is, His Word—and His Spirit—that is, His life.

The reply comes from several angles.

First: the Almighty’s statement,

“Indeed, the likeness of Jesus, in Allah’s sight, is like that of Adam: He created him from dust, then said to him, ‘Be!’ and he was.” ⦗Āl ʿImrān 3:59⦘

is incontestably true. For Allah, glorified be He, brought this human species into existence in every possible way, thereby demonstrating the universality of His power. He created Adam with neither male nor female; He created Adam’s wife Eve from a male without a female, as He said, “and from it He created its mate” ⦗al-Nisāʾ 4:1⦘; He created the Messiah from a female without a male; and He created the rest of humankind from a male—
