He only said:
“O Jesus, I will take you wholly to Myself, raise you up to Me, and cleanse you from those who disbelieve.” (Āl ‘Imrān 3:55)
And the Messiah said:
“When You took me up, You were the Watcher over them, for You are Witness over all things.” (al-Māʾidah 5:117)
And the Exalted One said:
“Because of their breaking the covenant, their denial of Allah’s signs, and their killing of the prophets without right, and because they said, ‘Our hearts are sealed’—no indeed! Allah has set a seal upon them for their disbelief, so they believe only a few—; and for their disbelief and their monstrous slander against Mary; and for their saying, ‘We killed the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, the messenger of Allah.’ Yet they neither killed him nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them. Those who differ about him are in doubt concerning him; they have no knowledge of it except the pursuit of conjecture, and for certain they did not kill him. Rather, Allah raised him up to Himself, and Allah is Almighty, All-Wise. There is none among the People of the Book but will surely believe in him before his death, and on the Day of Resurrection he will be a witness against them. So, for the wrongdoing of the Jews, We forbade them many good things that had been lawful to them; for their turning many away from Allah’s path; for their taking usury though it had been forbidden to them; and for their consuming people’s wealth unjustly. We have prepared for the disbelievers among them a painful punishment.” (al-Nisāʾ 4:155–161)
Thus Allah reproached the Jews for several matters, among them: their outrageous slander against Mary in which they claimed she was unchaste; and among them their statement, “We killed the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, the messenger of Allah.” (al-Nisāʾ 4:157)
He, exalted is He, said: “Yet they neither killed him nor crucified him; rather, it was made to appear so to them.” (al-Nisāʾ 4:157)
