The Exalted also said:
“Whenever the son of Mary is held up as an example, your people raise an outcry, and they say, ‘Are our gods better, or is he?’ They put this to you only for the sake of argument; in truth, they are a contentious people. He is nothing but a servant upon whom We bestowed Our favor, and We made him an example for the Children of Israel. Had We so willed, We could have appointed angels to succeed you on the earth. Indeed, he is a sign of the Hour; so do not doubt it, and follow Me—this is a straight path. Let not Satan turn you away, for he is your manifest enemy. When Jesus came with the clear proofs, he said, ‘I have brought you wisdom, and to clarify for you some of the matters about which you differ. So fear Allah and obey me. Truly You alone are the Knower of the unseen. I said to them only what You commanded me: “Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord.” I was a witness over them so long as I remained among them; but when You took me, You Yourself became the Watcher over them, and You are Witness over all things.’” ⦗Al-Ma’idah: 116–117⦘
Thus He made it clear concerning the Messiah that he said to the people nothing except what Allah had commanded him—namely, “Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord.” He was a witness over them so long as he remained among them, and after his passing it was Allah Who kept watch over them. Therefore, if some of them have erred in transmitting his words
