with the speech of Lordship. Accordingly, if the very Godhead that sent Moses and the other prophets had truly been present in the Messiah, he would not have submitted to Moses and his Torah, nor said that he had come only to complete it and not to annul it, nor would he have practiced its statutes. The Lord of the worlds is far too great and august for that; indeed, even were he an angel among the angels he would not have acted so—so what, then, of the Lord of all creation?

Should the Christians reply, “He behaved in that way out of fear of the Children of Israel, or lest they brand him a liar,” their excuse is uglier than their offence. Of whom, exalted is He, would the Lord of the worlds be afraid?!

When Pharaoh denied Moses, Moses displayed signs that humbled Pharaoh and his people in spite of their arrogance, and the Children of Israel were never more insolent than Pharaoh and his hosts. Thus, had Jesus been the Lord of the worlds, the signs by which he supported himself would have been greater than those with which He supported His servant Moses.

It is one of the Christians’ oddities that they ascribe divinity to him while at the same time alleging for him the utmost weakness—so much so that he was crucified.

The Muslims, on the other hand, say: He is a divinely supported Messenger, and he was not crucified. This is Allah’s way with His messengers: He supports them and grants them victory over their enemies, just as He helped Noah, Abraham, and Muhammad—may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon them—so when
