Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

—the very One who spoke to Moses—would surely have displayed, by His power, signs far greater than those He showed through Moses. After all, He never dwelt in Moses’ body, nor was the Divine Essence addressing creation from within Moses, as these people claim concerning the Messiah. Yet even without such indwelling, the signs with which He supported His servant Moses were tremendous. How then would His signs appear were He Himself actually to have taken up residence in the Messiah’s body and to have spoken to people through the Messiah’s own tongue?

Fourteenth Response:
One may further say that their assertion—namely, that God addressed humankind in the person of the Messiah just as He addressed the Prophet Moses from the thorn-bush—is sheer falsehood. By the unanimous agreement of all nations, God did not indwell the bush nor unite with it, whereas they claim that He indwelt the Messiah and became one with him. Indeed, according to them He settled within the Messiah’s inward being—and even his outward form—and united with him, both inwardly and outwardly; yet the Lord, exalted is He, was neither inside the bush nor did He dwell in it or merge with it.

As for God’s words that He spoke to Moses from it and called to him from it, this is like His statement that Moses was “called from the right side of the valley,” and like His saying:
“Has there come to you the story of Moses—when his Lord called to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa” (79:15-16),

and likewise, “in the blessed spot,” and similar phrases. Nothing in any of that suggests that
