Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

Moreover, Allah has informed us that He erases whatever Satan interjects—anything that conflicts with the very purpose of conveying the message—when He says:

“We never sent before you any messenger or prophet without Satan’s casting something into his recitation. Yet Allah abolishes what Satan casts, then Allah makes His verses firm; and Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.” [Al-Hajj: 52] (52)

“(He does this) so that what Satan casts may become a trial for those in whose hearts is sickness and for those whose hearts are hard; and truly, the wrongdoers are in extreme dissension.” [Al-Hajj: 53] (53)

“and so that those who have been granted knowledge may know that it is the truth from your Lord, believe in it, and so their hearts humble themselves to Him. Surely Allah guides those who believe to a straight path.” [Al-Hajj: 54] (54)

“But those who disbelieve will remain in doubt about it until the Hour comes upon them suddenly, or there comes upon them the punishment of a barren Day.” [Al-Hajj: 55]

If they say, “His report contradicts itself,” the answer is twofold:

First: were that allegation true, it would impugn his prophethood, for a messenger’s report cannot contradict itself. Anyone whose statements do clash cannot serve you as evidence for anything he has brought. And if the allegation is false, it merits no reply.

Thus it is clear that their appeal to what is in this Book to prove the soundness of their religion—by which they have opposed this very Book—is thoroughly unsound. It combines two mutually exclusive propositions and seeks to employ the Book as proof for something that negates the very possibility of citing the Book as proof at all.

And when the conclusion necessitates the invalidity of some of the premises of an argument, the argument itself is invalid.
