Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

And this is like the statement of the Messiah—peace be upon him—when he was asked about the knowledge of the Hour; he replied:

“No human being knows it, nor the angels in heaven, nor the Son—only the Father alone.”

Thus he denied that he himself possessed knowledge of the Hour, and this establishes two points:

  1. The designation “Son” applies solely to the nāsūt (human nature) and not to the lāhūt (divine nature), for knowledge of the Hour cannot be denied of the lāhūt.
  2. The Son did not know what Allah knows, which invalidates their claim of union (ittiḥād). Had such a union truly existed, as they allege, the Son would have known whatever Allah knows and been able to do whatever He can do, for in their view the Son is Allah and the nāsūt is indistinguishable from the lāhūt in the attributes they ascribe to the Messiah—being all-knowing, all-powerful, granting life and causing death.

The Messiah also said to his disciples: “Believe in Allah and believe in me.” He further said: “Whoever believes in me does not believe in me alone, but in the One who sent me.” They likewise report that the Messiah—peace be upon him—called upon Allah in distress, saying: “My God, my God …”
