to the Tent of Meeting; they shall stand beside you until I address them.
In the Fourth Book, when He spoke to Miriam and Aaron about Moses, it says:
“At that moment Allah manifested Himself in a pillar of cloud, standing at the entrance of the Tent, and He called out, ‘O Aaron! O Miriam!’ The two of them came forth, and He said, ‘Listen to My words: I am Allah in your midst.’ ”
And in chapter thirteen:
“If You bring this people up by Your power, they will say to the inhabitants of this land, who have heard that You are Allah in the midst of this nation, ‘They behold Him eye to eye; His cloud rests over them, and by a pillar of cloud He marches before them by day, and by a pillar of fire by night.’ ”
In the Fifth Book, Moses said to the Children of Israel:
“Do not dread them and do not fear them, for Allah your Lord, who goes before you, He Himself will fight on your behalf.”
Elsewhere Moses said:
“Indeed, this people is Your people.” He replied, “O Moses, I shall go before you, so set out.” Moses answered, “If You do not go with us, then do not bring us up from here. And how shall I and this people know that I have found favor in Your sight—except by Your own knowledge—unless You journey with us?”
