Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

Were that, however, to be established, it would simply parallel what the Torah says:

“God came from Mount Sinai, shone forth from Seir, and manifested Himself from the mountains of Paran.”

It is obvious that there is nothing in this passage to suggest that God indwelt Moses son of ʿImrān or became one with him, nor that He was present in Mount Paran, or united with anything in Sinai or Seir.
The same is true of the present wording: it in no way indicates that He indwelt the Messiah and united with him—the two situations stand on equal footing.

If someone were to say, “What is intended here is simply His nearness and proximity—His speaking to Moses, the appearance of His light, guidance, scripture, and religion, and similar events that actually took place,” the reply would be: the very same holds for the Messiah, peace be upon him.

As for the statement, “God will bare His holy arm to all the scattered nations,” the Torah contains comparable expressions in several places, yet none of them imply His union with Moses, peace be upon him.

Regarding the words about the dispersed peoples—“and He will make them a single nation”—they refer to those who followed the Messiah: they had been fragmented and scattered, and He made them one nation.

And concerning the sentence, “They will show all the inhabitants of the earth the salvation of God, for He walks with them and goes before them, and the God of Israel will gather them,” the Torah offers the like of this in many passages, and none of it points to His union with Moses or His indwelling in him—such as His words in the fifth book of the Torah, where Moses says to the Children of Israel, “Do not fear them…”
