Section: The Prophet Jeremiah’s Statement Concerning the Birth that Would Occur in That Era
They say: Jeremiah the prophet spoke about the birth destined for that time, saying: “A son will arise for David; he is the radiance of light. He will hold the reins of kingship, teach and enlighten, and establish truth and justice on the earth. He will deliver every believer in him—whether from the Jews, the Children of Israel, or others—and Bayt al-Maqdis (the Jerusalem Sanctuary) will remain secure without fighting, and he shall be called al-Ilāh (‘God’).”
As for his words, “a son for David,” this is because Mary was of David’s lineage; hence he said, “A son will arise for David.”
The reply is that he also said, “He will deliver those who believe in him from among the Jews and from the Children of Israel.” This accords with the deliverance we already explained when citing Ezra the priest.
Regarding the phrase, “and his name will be al-Ilāh,” it indicates that he is not Allah, Lord of the worlds; rather, the term ilāh (“god”) is simply a title bestowed on him, just as Moses was once called an ilāh.
