Section: What the earlier Scriptures foretold about the Messiah
They say:
“God spoke through the mouths of the prophets and messengers who prophesied his birth from the pure Virgin Mary, described all the deeds he would perform on earth, and foretold his ascent to heaven. All these prophecies are acknowledged and affirmed by the Jews; they read them in their synagogues and have never denied a single word of them.”
It is answered:
“All of this is uncontested by the Muslims. There is no doubt that he was born to the virgin, chaste Mary—whom no man had ever touched—that Allah displayed the signs at his hands, and that he was taken up to heaven, just as Allah has related in His Book, as mentioned earlier. Therefore, if these are matters foretold by the prophets in the prophecies possessed by the Jews, the Muslims would not deny them, even if the Jews interpret them as referring to someone other than the Messiah, just as the same prophecies contain glad tidings of Muhammad (Allah bless him and grant him peace), even though the disbelievers among the People of the Book interpret them otherwise. The truth of the prophecy stands, even if those who reject him from the People of the Book apply it to someone else.”
