the Lord of the worlds who created the heavens and the earth. Had it been posited that the Messiah himself were the very attribute of God, he still would not thereby be God, nor the Lord of the worlds, nor the Creator of the heavens and the earth.
The Christians say: “The Messiah is the Lord of the worlds, the Creator of everything; he created Adam and Mary. Although he is the son of Adam and Mary, it was by his divinity that he created them, while he is their son by his humanity.”
Thus, were one to suppose that the Messiah is an attribute of the Lord, an attribute is not the creator. All the more so when the Messiah is not, in fact, God’s own attribute: he is a created being brought into existence by the word of God and is therefore called “the Word of God,” because God fashioned him with the command kun (Be).
God Most High says,
“That is Jesus, son of Mary—the word of truth about which they dispute.” [Maryam 19:34] (34)
“It is not fitting for God to take a son—exalted is He! When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, ‘Be,’ and it is.” [Maryam 19:35]
He also called him “His spirit” because He created him from the blowing of the Holy Spirit into his mother; He did not create him as He creates others, from a human father.
God the Exalted said,
“God gives you glad tidings of a word from Him: his name is the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, honored in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near.” [Āl ʿImrān 3:45] (45)
“He will speak to people in the cradle and in maturity, and he will be among the righteous.” [Āl ʿImrān 3:46] (46)
She said, “My Lord, how shall I have a child when no man has touched me?” He said, “Thus does God create whatever He wills. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, ‘Be,’ and it is.” [Āl ʿImrān 3:47]
