Section: Clarifying the meaning of the Messiah’s being supported by the Holy Spirit

They cite as proof—and He (the Almighty) also says—
“O Jesus, son of Mary, remember My favor upon you and upon your mother when I strengthened you with the Holy Spirit.” ⦗Al-Māʾidah 5:110⦘ (110)

We answer: this is beyond dispute, yet it serves you in no way; rather, it is proof against you. Allah did indeed support the Messiah, peace be upon him, with the Holy Spirit, as this verse affirms. The Exalted likewise said in al-Baqarah:
“We gave Jesus son of Mary the clear proofs and reinforced him with the Holy Spirit.” ⦗Al-Baqarah 2:87⦘ (87)

And He said:
“Those messengers—We favored some of them over others. Among them are those to whom Allah spoke directly, and He raised some in rank; We gave Jesus son of Mary the clear proofs and strengthened him with the Holy Spirit.” ⦗Al-Baqarah 2:253⦘ (253)

This support is not confined to the Messiah; others have been aided in the same manner. They themselves report that He said to David, “Do not take Your holy spirit away from me.” And our Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said to Ḥassān ibn Thābit: “O Allah, support him with the Spirit…"

[فَصْلٌ: بَيَانُ مَعْنَى تَأْيِيدِ الْمَسِيحِ بِرُوحِ الْقُدُسِ] قَالُوا: وَقَالَ أَيْضًا: {يَاعِيسَى ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ اذْكُرْ نِعْمَتِي عَلَيْكَ وَعَلى وَالِدَتِكَ إِذْ أَيَّدْتُكَ بِرُوحِ الْقُدُسِ} [المائدة: ١١٠] . فَيُقَالُ: هَذَا مِمَّا لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ، وَلَا حَجَّةَ لَكُمْ فِيهِ، بَلْ هُوَ حُجَّةٌ عَلَيْكُم، فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ أَيَّدَ الْمَسِيحَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ بِرُوحِ الْقُدُسِ كَمَا ذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ فِي هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ وَقَالَ تَعَالَى: فِي الْبَقَرَةِ: {وَآتَيْنَا عِيسَى ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ الْبَيِّنَاتِ وَأَيَّدْنَاهُ بِرُوحِ الْقُدُسِ} [البقرة: ٨٧] . وَقَالَ تَعَالَى: {تِلْكَ الرُّسُلُ فَضَّلْنَا بَعْضَهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ مِنْهُمْ مَنْ كَلَّمَ اللَّهُ وَرَفَعَ بَعْضَهُمْ دَرَجَاتٍ وَآتَيْنَا عِيسَى ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ الْبَيِّنَاتِ وَأَيَّدْنَاهُ بِرُوحِ الْقُدُسِ} [البقرة: ٢٥٣] . وَهَذَا لَيْسَ مُخْتَصًّا بِالْمَسِيحِ، بَلْ قَدْ أُيِّدَ غَيْرُهُ بِذَلِكَ، وَقَدْ ذَكَرُوا هُمْ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِدَاوُدَ: رُوحُكَ الْقُدُسُ لَا تُنْزَعُ مِنِّي، وَقَدْ «قَالَ نَبِيُّنَا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِحَسَّانَ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ: اللَّهُمَّ أَيِّدْهُ بِرُوحِ
