—is, in truth, nothing but reality; and there is no doubt that the sacred books contain the same meaning that is found in the Quran. In the Quran it is stated that Allah sent His Spirit to Mary, and the Spirit breathed into her, so she conceived the Messiah, peace be upon him:
Allah the Exalted said:
“So We sent to her Our Spirit, and he appeared before her as a perfectly formed human being.” ⦗Maryam 17⦘
(17)
“She said, ‘I seek refuge in the Most Merciful from you, if you are God-fearing.’” ⦗Maryam 18⦘
(18)
“He said, ‘I am only a messenger from your Lord, sent to grant you a pure boy.’” ⦗Maryam 19⦘
(19)
“She said, ‘How can I have a boy when no man has touched me, nor have I ever been unchaste?’” ⦗Maryam 20⦘
(20)
“He said, ‘So it shall be; your Lord says, “It is easy for Me. We shall make him a sign for humanity and a mercy from Us,” and the matter has been decreed.’” ⦗Maryam 21⦘
(21)
“So she conceived him and withdrew with him to a distant place.” ⦗Maryam 22⦘—to the end of the story.
Allah the Exalted also said:
“And the woman who guarded her chastity—We breathed into her of Our Spirit, and We made her and her son a sign for all peoples.” ⦗Al-Anbiya 91⦘
And He said:
“And Mary, daughter of ʿImran, who guarded her chastity—We breathed into it of Our Spirit; she believed in the words of her Lord and His scriptures, and she was among the devout.” ⦗Al-Tahrim 12⦘
