Section: Clarifying David’s statement, “By the word of God the heavens and the earth were made firm, and by the breath of His mouth all their hosts.”

They say, “David the Prophet—peace be upon him—also declared: ‘By the word of God the heavens and the earth were made firm, and by the breath of His mouth all their hosts.’”

We reply: As for his words, “By the word of God the heavens and the earth were made firm,” this too is evidence against you for several reasons.

First: God brought all things into existence by His word—that is, by the command kun (‘Be’)—as is stated in the Torah: “Let this be, let that be, let this be,” and likewise in the Psalms: “For He spoke and they came to be; He commanded, and they were created.” Thus their very existence derives from His speech.

Similar is His saying in the Psalms, “I made all things in wisdom,” and in the Quran: “His command, when He wills a thing, is only to say to it, ‘Be,’ and it is” ⦗Ya-Sin: 82⦘.

The Messiah is not these words.
