Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

basis for saying that God’s very name is the Holy Spirit, or that His life is called the Holy Spirit, or that the Holy Spirit from whom the Messiah took flesh—together with Mary—is itself the life of God, exalted is He. Yet you have asserted, “We Christians did not devise these titles on our own; rather, God Himself named His divinity with them.” In the passages you have quoted from the prophets, however, there is nothing indicating that God ever called Himself—or any of His attributes—the Holy Spirit, nor that He called Himself or any of His attributes “the Son.” Your designation of the divine attribute of life as “the Holy Spirit,” and the divine attribute of knowledge as “the Son,” therefore falls to the ground.

Moreover, you maintain that the Messiah alone is distinguished by the Word and the Spirit. But if the Holy Spirit was present in David—peace be upon him—the Disciples, and others besides, your claim of exclusivity for the Messiah is invalid. It is universally acknowledged that David was a servant of Allah, majestic and exalted, even though the Holy Spirit was in him.

Likewise, the Messiah is but a servant of Allah, even if the Holy Spirit was in him. Consequently, what you have cited from the prophets counts as evidence against you and in favor of the Muslims, not evidence for your position.
