And He said in Surah al-Tahrim:

“And Mary, daughter of ʿImrān, who guarded her chastity; so We breathed into it of Our Spirit, and she affirmed the words of her Lord and His Books and was of the devoutly obedient.” ⦗al-Tahrim: 12⦘.

The rest of the Muslims say: “The Book is the speech of Allah, and speech can belong only to a living, speaking being. These are essential attributes that function like names; each attribute is distinct from the other, while the Godhead is one, neither divisible nor composite.”

The answer may be given in several ways. One of them is to say: The speech of the prophets—may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon them—is nothing but truth and veracity, and it contains nothing that plain reason knows to be false, even though it may include matters the intellect cannot grasp without the prophets’ disclosure. Nor will the words of a prophet in one place contradict his words elsewhere, or contradict the words of the other prophets; rather, everything the prophets have reported is true and right, each confirming the other.

Allah has obliged us to believe in everything they have conveyed, and He has ruled a disbeliever anyone who believes in part of it while rejecting another part. Therefore, what is known by clear reason does not contradict what is established by sound transmission from the prophets, and what is established by sound transmission from some of them does not contradict what is established by sound transmission from the others—although certain rulings and paths of command and prohibition may differ.

As for what they report concerning Allah, His angels, His Scriptures, His messengers, and the Last Day,
