Section: Clarifying the Divine Names

They say, “As for the three names, they are one God, one Lord, one Creator—a single reality that has never ceased, and will never cease, to be something living and speaking; namely: essence, speech, and life.

The essence, according to us, is the Father, who is the source of the other two.

Speech is the Son, begotten from Him just as utterance is generated from the intellect.

Life is the Holy Spirit.

Our reply to this has several aspects:

First: The names of Allah—blessed and exalted—is are many and manifold, for He says,

‘He is Allah—there is no deity except Him—Knower of the unseen and the seen; He is the All-Merciful, the Especially Merciful.’ (Al-Hashr 59:22) ⦗22⦘

‘He is Allah—there is no deity except Him—the Sovereign, the Most Holy, the Source of Peace, the Granter of Security, the Guardian, the All-Mighty, the Compeller, the Supreme. Exalted is Allah above what they associate with Him.’ (Al-Hashr 59:23) ⦗23⦘

‘He is Allah, the Creator, the Maker, the Fashioner. To Him belong the Most Beautiful Names. Everything in the heavens and the earth glorifies Him, and He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.’ (Al-Hashr 59:24)
