—that is, the deficient, contemptible being, rather than the perfect and noble One—and this, in fact, subsumes the essence of their argument.
Moreover, He is Living, and life by its very nature entails knowledge. Since His life surpasses every other life in perfection, His knowledge must likewise surpass every other knowledge.
Yet we say to you: just as He is Living and Knowing, He is also Powerful. If, as you claim, existents—or living beings—are divided into those that are capable and those that are incapable, then He must be described by the more exalted of the two, namely power.
Indeed, the proofs for His power are even clearer than the proofs for His knowledge, for the very fact that He is a Creator and an Agent necessarily requires that He be Powerful. Action without power is impossible; even when an inanimate object is said to act, it does so only by a force within it—such as the natural forces found in physical bodies. It is therefore inconceivable that the Creator of the universe should lack strength and power.
The Exalted says:
“Surely Allah is the Provider, Possessor of Power, the Strong.” (51:58)
And He says:
“Have they not seen that Allah, who created them, is mightier than they in power?” (41:15)
In Sahih al-Bukhari, in the hadith of istikhāra, it is related:
“O Allah, I seek Your choice by Your knowledge, and I ask You to empower me through Your power, and I ask You of Your immense bounty, for You are able whereas I am not, and You know whereas I do not, and You are the Knower of the unseen.”
