a weak argument, and you have produced no proof that it came to be without any agent—neither through itself nor through something else. If the impossibility of its self-origination requires evidence, then the impossibility of its occurrence without a producer requires the same. And if the latter is known by the immediate intuition of reason—being among the self-evident sciences—then so is the former. To cite a proof for one while neglecting the other is a mistake even had your proof been sound; how much worse when the proof itself is unsound!
Who among them has actually reached such a level of knowledge of the rational arguments by which one establishes certainty about the Maker and His attributes? Yet they still wish to posit further rational notions and allege that these accord with their false understanding of the divine scriptures.
Concerning such people Allah says:
“Those who disbelieve—their deeds are like a mirage in a desert. The thirsty man thinks it to be water, but when he reaches it he finds nothing, yet he finds Allah there who settles his account; and Allah is swift in reckoning.” (Qur’an 24:39) (39)
“Or like layers of darkness in a deep sea, covered by waves upon waves, topped by clouds: darkness upon darkness. If he stretches out his hand, he can hardly see it. And whoever Allah has not granted light will have no light at all.” (Qur’an 24:40) (40)
Twelfth Point:
You say, “We therefore asserted that He is a ‘thing’ unlike created things, since He is the Creator of everything, in order to negate non-existence from Him.”
We reply: There is no doubt that Allah is exactly as He has described Himself:
“There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.” (Qur’an 42:11)
And He says:
“So worship Him and remain steadfast in worshipping Him. Do you know of anyone who shares His name?” (Qur’an 19:65)
