Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

the concepts—and even the very term “hypostases”—along with other notions for which the scriptures in their hands provide no warrant whatsoever. They first extracted from those texts a spurious meaning and then overlaid it with further fabrications of their own; by so doing, they corrupted God’s books and forged lies against Him. A detailed treatment of this appears elsewhere.

Eighth consideration:
Although the doctrine of the hypostases is unsound both rationally and scripturally, none of their canonical writings actually articulates it, and the word itself is found in neither the prophets’ books that they possess nor the utterances of the apostles. It is a term of their own invention. Some say it is a Latin word, and others maintain that in their language it means “origin.” Hence their definitions vacillate: sometimes they call the hypostases “persons,” at other times “properties,” “attributes,” or “substances,” and occasionally they make a hypostasis a name that embraces both the essence and the attribute. This last is the explanation advanced by their most accomplished scholars.

Ninth consideration:
Their claim that the Messiah—peace be upon him—is a creator is, besides being invalid according to both revelation and reason, unsupported by any of the prophetic writings they possess. They merely adduce passages that cannot bear such a meaning, as we shall show, God willing.

Tenth consideration:
Likewise, their assertion that the Divine Nature became incarnate—an idea refuted by both reason and revelation—is not affirmed by any statement of the infallible prophets and messengers.
