—toward your own self.” Agreed upon.
“As-sāniʿ,” with an undotted sād, is the version most frequently transmitted. Another wording has “ḍāʾiʿan,” with a dotted ḍād, meaning one who is destitute because of poverty or dependents; and “al-akhrāq” refers to a person who is clumsy and unable to do properly what he attempts.
120 – Second: Abū Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) also reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Each morning charity is due from every one of your joints. Every utterance of ‘Subḥānallāh’ is a charity, every ‘Al-ḥamdu lillāh’ is a charity, every ‘Lā ilāha illā Allāh’ is a charity, every ‘Allāhu akbar’ is a charity; enjoining what is right is a charity, and forbidding what is wrong is a charity. Two units of prayer performed at ḍuḥā time suffice for all of that.” Narrated by Muslim.
“As-salāmā,” with an initial sīn, a light lām, and an open mīm, means “joint.”
121 – Third: He said that the Prophet ﷺ stated, “The deeds of my community, the good of them and the bad, were presented before me. Among the finest of their deeds I found the removal of harm from the road (1); and among the worst of their deeds I found phlegm left in the mosque without being buried.” Narrated by Muslim.
122 – Fourth: He further related that some people said, “Messenger of Allah, the affluent have carried off all the rewards: they pray as we pray, they fast as we fast, and they give charity out of the surplus of their wealth (2).” He said, “Has not Allah granted you that with which you can give charity? Every ‘Subḥānallāh’ is a charity, every ‘Allāhu akbar’ is a charity, every ‘Al-ḥamdu lillāh’ is a charity, every ‘Lā ilāha illā Allāh’ is a charity; enjoining what is right is a charity, forbidding what is wrong is a charity, and in the marital act of any one of you there is charity.” They asked, “Messenger of Allah, does one of us actually receive reward for satisfying his desire?” He replied, “Tell me: if he were to put it in what is unlawful, would he not incur a sin…?”
